I don’t know about where you live, but here in Wyoming, it gets cold. Really cold.
This winter, the rapidly dropping temperatures have prompted me to look into the different types of leather winter coats available. I’ve compiled my thoughts and experiences with several different companies into these best winter coats reviews.
What’s So Great About Sheepskin?
Pretty much every coat I talk about here is going to be made of sheepskin. I’ve covered this topic rather extensively before, which you can read about here. If you don’t want to read the full version, here are the main points:
- It keeps you warm when it’s cold, and cool when it’s warm.
- It is flame resistant, static resistant, and water resistant.
- It is incredibly durable, and can last for decades.
That’s really what’s important. When it comes to having the best winter coat, you want something that will keep you warm and not get soaked in the rain or snow. The best way to get all these things is in a nice sheepskin(also known as shearling) coat.
Where Can I Get One?
There are a lot of companies that sell sheepskin. I’ll try to keep this a living list, adding and taking away companies as they earn their spot in the list.
LeatherCoatsEtc.
LeatherCoatsEtc is a great next stop on our winter coat tour. They can be expensive, but they have a massive sale season through most of the fall and winter, which makes them incredibly well priced. They have a nice variety of coats, and they are pretty good quality.
You do have to keep an eye out. They have a lot of faux shearling stuff mixed in with their real shearling coats. You probably know at this point how I feel about faux leather products. I especially don’t like having to try and sort through the faux products to get to the real ones. But it does give a “sheepskin coat” option to softer-hearted animal lovers.
All that being said, they are still great, and during the sale season, they are the cheapest option available to you.
As Always, Let’s Look At The Gift Potential
I’ve talked about great leather gifts a lot in the past, and that will probably continue in the future. That’s because the best gifts are quality gifts, and these coats are no different.
While getting a loved one a sheepskin coat is great for any occasion, it is especially applicable for the chilly Christmas season. Whether they are commuting to a regular 9-5, or spending days out on the ranch, there is a coat that will match their style and needs, and keep them warm and toasty while doing it.
