Leather luggage is generally pretty pricey, but it really is a wise investment. Not only does leather luggage look beautiful, but it’s also strong, durable, and relatively lightweight. When something lasts for 60 years, it ends up saving you money in the end. However, before you jump into buying, it is worth taking a look at what options are available to you. Everyone’s needs are different, so hopefully, this guide will help you determine what the best leather luggage is for you.
Kodiak leather has a decent variety of duffel bags of different sizes. One of the challenges of leather luggage is that the more durable the materials are, the heavier the luggage tends to be. And if you’re traveling you generally don’t want to be carrying too much weight. These duffels hit a good middle spot where they have high-quality materials for good durability, but they aren’t so heavy that they become awkward. Combine that with their reasonable price, 25-year warranty, and great customer service, and they currently win my vote for best leather luggage. As a bonus, they come with a free leather luggage tag.
The biggest drawback to Kodiak duffels is that they are fairly limited in style and color. You have a lot of size options, but not a lot of color/style options.
Saddleback is one of the quality leaders in the leather industry, and their luggage is no exception. Made from full grain leather, each bag is unique, and has a 100 year warranty. And they mean it. If your bag breaks within the next century, they’ll replace it. Which means this isn’t just an investment for you, but for your children and grandchildren as well.
They have a wide variety of luggage options, including soft duffel bags and hard-cased trunks, but they don’t have any of the stereotypical “rolling luggage” type options. They all have to be carried.
They are a bit pricey, but overall they are totally worth it, and I recommend them wholeheartedly.
This bag is the epitome of just good enough. There is nothing about it that stands out as incredibly special, but there isn’t anything particularly wrong with it either. It is just a standard soft leather duffel bag. It comes in at an incredibly reasonable price, so if you are looking for a super low budget option but still want something fairly nice, this is a good direction to go.
While AmeriLeather is less well know than Saddleback, they still make some really nice stuff. What they lack in notability, they make up for in variety. While Saddleback is limited in selection, AmeriLeather has rolling suitcases, duffle bags, garment bags, and pretty much every kind of luggage you can think of.
While they are affordable, much of their luggage is made with bonded leather, which ages quickly and doesn’t even count in my book as real leather.
